Greetings families,
As you know, Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) provided many students with the technology needed to take part in Distance Learning. As the end of the school year nears, we wanted families to know what they should do with those devices.
If your student(s) WILL BE RETURNING to our school or another MPS school in the fall:
You should keep the devices over the summer and until students return to school. This will provide students the opportunity to pursue summer school programs or self-guided enrichment opportunities.
Students must continue to follow the district’s Internet and Educational Network Use Policy and Internet, Email and Network Rules for Student Use when using district devices. Please also review how to care for the device here: MPS Student Device Guidance.
Technology support will continue to be available over the summer by any one of these resources:
To minimize potential damage to devices, please store them in a safe place and avoid taking the device outside your home.
If your student(s) WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO OUR SCHOOL OR ANY OTHER MPS SCHOOL in the fall:
Please return all devices such as Chromebooks, iPads and/or Wifi hotspots. Students and families should return all devices to their school when picking up personal belonging pick up days Wednesday, June 3 from 9-12 and Thursday, June 4 from 3-6.
If you are unable to return devices during this time, or decide to move out of the district over the summer, you may drop them off at the MPS Transportation Center located at 1001 2nd Ave. N., Minneapolis (see map below). The center is open Monday-Friday, between the hours of 12 - 5 p.m.
If you plan on turning in your device at school or the Transportation Center, please follow these safety tips:
-
Put the device in your trunk, not in the car with you.
-
When you arrive at the school/center, stay in your car at all times.
-
When a staff person approaches the car, crack your window open just a little and pop the trunk of your car/van.
-
Staff will take the device from your trunk and close the trunk.
-
Staff will ask you for your student’s name and ID number.
If you plan on bussing or walking to the school or center, please make sure to wear a mask and maintain social distancing (6 feet apart) with other people.
Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.
Principal Jonson
